About Me
Thanks for stopping by. I’m an award-winning journalist in the San Francisco Bay Area, whose work focuses on science, psychology and the courage and determination of human beings. I’ve explored the science of how the mind works, from memory to sexual attraction (it takes the brain about 100 milliseconds to decide if you’re interested in someone) and hung out with astronauts who are training for a trip to Mars. One of them said, “Trying to understand our place in the universe is what drives me.” I rarely leave my office, much less the earth’s atmosphere. But I’d say the same.
My work has appeared in TIME, O The Oprah Magazine, Vogue, Elle, Scientific American, Outside and Runner’s World, among many others. I’m the co-author of Mutual Rescue: How Adopting a Homeless Animal Can Save You, Too (with Carol Novello) and Bringing Home the Bacon: Making Marriage Work When She Makes More Money (with Harriet Pappenheim) – and I have ghost-written a handful of health and wellness books, including Pregnancy Fitness.
